Trip Report

We had arranged the Friday Nov 25 off of work to go skiing at Marmot. Much to our delight, Marmot was dumped on with snow and we spent the day exhausting ourselves on surprise mid-week powder! Feeling tired and already satisfied, we picked a more relaxing activity for Saturday Nov 26. Mount Solomon is a quick hike that begins in front of Black Cat Guest Ranch, just outside of Brûlé. The driveway to the ranch is flat and easy to drive with AWD and winter tires. We parked in a pullout off to the side, out of the way of their gate.

The trail was hard-packed and reasonably obvious.
Views quickly opened up over Brûlé Lake and the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains.
At a Y we kept left and took the short-cut trail straight up. The left trail has one short, muddy, steep section where microspikes would come in handy, but there were no cliffs or sketchy terrain.
Before we knew it, we were at the top! The vista overlooking Boule Roche can be enjoyed from this charming bench.
A raven swooped down to see what we were up to.
Satisfied with the views we easily hiked back out, reaching our vehicle in just shy of 3 hrs.

After our hike we warmed up with two cups of the best coffee in Hinton. Most people probably know that the best coffee in Canmore is at Eclipse Coffee Roasters, but did you know Eclipse’s coffee is also available at Rojo Marron Mexican Restaurant in Hinton? The restaurant’s delicious food is a bonus!
