Trip Report

A day use pass is required to access this trailhead during summer; it’s free and can be booked online. Park personnel were posted at the entrance to the parking lot and asked for our pass number before allowing us through.

While in the Lower Mainland to visit family, we sneaked away for a day to hike in Garibaldi Provincial Park. In true BC fashion it rained 8 of the 9 days we were out, including this day. Panorama Ridge offers a scenic, non-technical ascent with most of the day spent on a wide, well-maintained trail through thick forest. Only the last 40 min of the ascent was spent zig-zagging up a gravel slope.

From the Rubble Creek trailhead, it is 7.5 km (2 hrs) to reach Taylor Meadows. The trail rises through thick forest at a steady incline, gaining almost 1000 m of elevation. We were soon treated to our first glimpse of the bright turquoise waters of Garibaldi Lake.
Continuing through meadow above the lake, greeted by locals.
Before turning right to begin climbing Panorama Ridge, we gazed northeast at Cinder Cone and Helm Ridge.
Walking up the gravel slope of Panorama Ridge with Black Tusk in the background. A scramble route is available to the false summit of Black Tusk, but we won’t be trying it in today’s rain.
Pausing just before the summit of Panorama Ridge to take in the view of Garibaldi Lake. Most of Mount Garibaldi (center) is obscured by clouds.

Beginning our return trip, back the way we came.
I wish I was as photogenic as this marmot.
Passing back through Taylor Meadows.
We stopped for dinner at Backcountry Brewing in Squamish where I discovered my new favourite pizza topping: DILL PICKLE!

Panorama Ridge offers an easy day without any technical terrain and excellent views over Garibaldi Provincial Park. For anyone comfortable hiking 28+ km, it’s a great day out. The distance passed quickly on easy terrain.
